MAHENDRA POOL

MAHENDRA POOL

Mahendrapool is the bridge over Seti River and this bridge links Ranipauwa to Mahendrapool. The bridge is also a prime tourist spot of Pokhara, as we can see the deep Seti gorge from here. Everyday, hundreds of tourist from within and outside Nepal comes to this place to see the gorge. Today, with the pace of modernization this bridge has lost its charm. The accumulation of waste on the slope of the gorge has given different identity to this tourist place. The smell of the garbage makes it impossible for the people to stand and look at the gorge.

This place has become a dumping site for the entrepreneurs and house owners of Mahendrapool. The people over here keep on blaming the hotels and motels of Lakeside for polluting the Lake, but forgets look at them, as they don’t realize what they have done to the river. These destinations are the brand ambassador of Pokhara, so we need to keep them clean. Polluting these destinations will spread negative image of Pokhara and people residing over here. If we can’t make new destination, lets at least stop polluting the existing destinations.

The bridge has also become a parking area for the taxis and Motorbikes. Traffic officers try to stop the drivers from parking in this areas but it seems like today everyone wants to become a king, with their own laws and rules. The drivers are ignorant about the fact that we shouldn’t park vehicles on the bridge.

The Sub Metropolitan offices don’t allow people to keep pedestrian shops on the Mahendrapool and Chipledhunga area. This has increase the footpath shops on the Ranipauwa side of the bridge. The city bus on one side and footpath shops on the other side of the road has narrowed the road. This led to usual traffic jams on the bridge.

These are the few things that we need to think and rethink again. Lets become aware and preserve our Mahendrapool.
